Bandung Institute of Governance Studies (BIGS) welcomed the visit of University of Osaka’s researchers, Monday August 29, 2016. Led by Kenichi Nishimura (Associate Professor) and accompanied by Husnul Khitam, M.Si, deputy head of Sociology Department of State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta, five researchers participated in the visit.
Prof. Kenichi explained that their visit is to have views and opinions from BIGS regarding public service at subnational level. They are conducting research on the issue in three countries: Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
BIGS used the occasion to explain the experiences of working in governance, including on public service at the local level. BIGS described the great gap among districts/municipalities, and among regions in Java and outside of Java. Those differences are important to consider in development of research instrument. In addition, BIGS highlighted the recent development in governance, that is the use of information and communication technology (ICT). BIGS demonstrated the application that it has developed in front of the researchers. They said they were impressed.
Before leaving, the research team from Japan thanked BIGS for the discussion and promised to take BIGS’ input into consideration in developing their research instrument. (*)
